Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Volleyball · SWR’s Varsity Volleyball Team Dominates on Senior Night

Asheboro (October 10, 2017) – The SWR’s varsity volleyball team defeated Asheboro 3-0 in a tight match-up. The Cougars fought hard to come out on top, with the set scores being 26-24, 26-24, and 25-18 to take all three sets. This was the team’s fourteenth 3-0 game this season. The Cougars’ record improved to 19-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference. With this win, they moved up into the top-15 standings among the NC Class 3A volleyball standing, sitting in the 15th spot.

It was Senior night at the John (Jack) S. Castelloe gymnasium and the seniors gave it their all as this was the last time they would being playing at home. Senior Kendra Davis lead the cougars with 10 kills, 7 digs, and 2 aces. Senior Alayna Woodard added 5 more kills and 7 more digs to the Cougars stat sheets, and senior Faith Latham came up big for the Cougars in the second set. With the Cougars being down 20-13 in the 2nd set, Latham began a serving run, serving 12 balls with 3 aces to help get the win. Junior Cassidy Schiebel showed she is ready to take over one of the senior roles next season as she had 6 kills for the Cougars.

SWR will face Southeast Guilford on Thursday, October 12, 2017, with game time starting at 6:30 p.m. This is an away match and the last match of the season before heading into the conference playoffs. The 3-A Mid Piedmont Conference Tournament runs October 16-18th with the Championship match being played on Wednesday October 18, 2017.
