Pleasant Gardens, N.C. (October 12, 2017) – SWR’s varsity volleyball team falls to Southeast Guilford 0-3 in their final regular season matchup in three sets 15-20, 20-25, and 22-25. This loss drops the Cougars to 3rd place in the conference standings. Their final regular season records are 19-5 overall and 9-3 in the 3A Mid Piedmont Conference.
Senior Alayna Woodard had 7 kills, 9 digs and 2 aces for the Cougars. Senior Kendra Davis added 6 kills, 6 digs and 4 aces to the stat book. Junior Cassidy Schiebel contributed 5 kills, Junior Addy Salisbury 11 assists and Senior Taylor Mabe 10 digs to help the Cougars, but it still was not enough to get the win.
“It seemed like two different teams on both side compared to the match we played against them earlier in the season,” said head coach Darby Kennedy.
The Cougars won the match against the Falcons earlier in the season 3-0. Did the Falcons come into this game looking for revenge or did the Cougar’s players head into the game to lightly? That is a question we may never have a true answer for, but we do know that the Falcons came away with the win this time. The Cougars did the same turn around after losing their first matchup against Southern Alamance 2-3, then defeated them in the second matchup 3-0. It goes to show that every player on the team has to come out perform their very best every game.
They will face Walter M. Williams Monday, October 16, 2017 at home to start the conference tournament. The match will begin at 6:00 p.m., so come out and support your Cougars. They defeated the Bulldogs in both matchups during regular season play. The first match was on Sept. 7th in which the score was 3-0 and the second match on Oct. 3rd where they won 3-2.
