Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Volleyball · Cougars Volleyball Falls to the Blue Comets in Round 2

Graham, N.C. (October 17, 2017) – The varsity volleyball team fell to Asheboro on Tuesday night 0-3 (16-25, 16-25, 15-25) in round 2 of the 3A Mid Piedmont Conference tournament.

Senior Taylor Mabe led the team in digs with 15. Freshman Peyton LeRoy contributed 12 assists and 8 digs to the Cougars. Senior Kendra Davis led the team with 6 kills and also had 4 digs. Sophomore Meredith Smith was close on her heels with 5 kills and 5 digs. Senior Alayna Woodard added 4 kills and 6 digs to the stat sheet for the Cougars.

The Cougars would go on runs but just could not keep the momentum going long enough to secure a win. Especially in the third set, the Cougars found themselves in a double-digit deficit and Mabe went on a serving streak to close the gap. Again, it was still not enough to capture a set for the Cougars.

This is not the end for the Cougar’s seniors though. They will participate in the NC 3A State Volleyball Playoffs starting Saturday. They will have to wait till later this week to find out if they get to play at home, or will have to travel.
