Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Cougars Varsity Soccer Team Advances in Playoffs

Asheboro, N.C. (November 1, 2017) – The 5th ranked Southwestern Randolph’s varsity soccer team walked away with a 5-3 win over 28th ranked West Henderson in round 1 of the 2017 Men’s Soccer 3-A Championships. The Cougars are in the West Regional bracket and will take on the winner of the (12) Watauga vs (21) A.L. Brown game. This matchup will take place the Saturday, November 4, 2017.

The Cougars came away with a “W” by out-scoring the Falcons. The offense was on top of their game while the defense struggled.

“I am happy with a win, but we have some opportunities to improve on before Saturday’s game,” said soccer’s head coach Jimmy Walker. “We had some miscommunications on defense that cost us those three goals and if we want to advance to the 3rd and 4th round, then that is something we have to fix.”

Senior #7 Carlos Caudros earns his sixth Player of the Game award this season. Caudros has netted 22 balls this year and has 28 assists. Senior #19 Enrique Ramerez has also been an offensive workhorse netting 31 goals and 9 assists.

One thing the Cougars must do is to stay focused on the game in front of them and try not to look ahead. They must stay in the now to avoid overlooking opponents. There have already been several upsets in round one and it very well could be contributed to just this very thing. (21) Asheboro upset (12) Clayton 2-0, (24) Southern Wayne over (9) Southern Nash 3-1, and (20) Tuscola over (13) Northwest Cabarrus 2-1.
