Asheboro, N.C. (August 29, 2018) – The Southwestern Randolph varsity volleyball team continues to show their resilience as they improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play as they won their conference opener against Southern Alamance.
SWR won in five games with scores of 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, and 15-11.
The Cougars got off to a quick start winning the first two matches over the Patriots. After settling down, the Patriots were able to rally back to win the next two sets to send the match into a tie-breaker set.
SWR’s head volleyball coach Darby Kennedy was able to make the necessary adjustments to help her team walk away victorious.
Payton Shiflet led the team in kills with 22 while adding 15 digs. Cassidy Schiebel managed 12 kills and tacked on four service aces. Ashton Maness contributed three kills and also led the team with 28 digs. Alex Coleman also performed well in the backcourt with 21 digs. Peyto LeRoy continues to put up big numbers with 44 assists. With one more game, we will get to see just were LeRoy will land in the state stat leaderboard as it requires a minimum of seven games.
Southwestern Randolph’s success is paying off as they continue to climb up in the MaxPreps rankings. Currently, the Cougars are 269th in the nation, 24thin the state and 14thin state 3A class.
SWR will take on Eastern Guilford on Thursday, Aug. 30 in their second conference match. The match will take place at Eastern Guilford in Gibsonville, N.C. with the start time set at 5 p.m.
