Girls Varsity Volleyball · Varsity Volleyball Continues To Improve Record


ASHEBORO (September 26, 2018) – The SWR Cougars’ varsity volleyball team increased their win count this week with wins over Randleman and Eastern Guilford. They improve to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

On Monday, the Cougars took on Randleman defeated the Tigers in three sets. SWR took the first set 25-21 to start the night off. The Tigers fought back in the second set before succumbing to the relentlessness of the Cougars with the score being 28-26. SWR continued to put the pressure on Randleman causing them to make mental mistakes leading to a 25-19 win to seal the victory.

Freshman Payton Shiflet led the team in both kills and digs with ten kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Ashton Manesscontributed eight kills while freshman Payton Shiflet had 29 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Alex Coleman added 15 digs and three service aces to her stats.

Tuesday, Southwestern Randolph faced Eastern Guilford and made short work of the Wildcats. Again, the Cougars won in three sets. They won the first and last set by a score of 25-15 and the second set 25-4.

Payton Shiflet came away on top with nine kills. Senior Cassidy Schiebeladded seven kills and three service aces. Maness snagged six service aces. Coleman had 15 digs and junior Jenna Davis grabbed six kills. Sophomore Peyton LeRoy led the team with 21 assists and added six digs.

SWR has one more game this week on Thursday as they travel to Southern Guilford.
