The Southwestern Randolph Cougars competed in the 21st Courier Tribune County Invitational 18 hole golf match today. They finished 8th overall with a team score of 454. The tournament was won by Asheboro High School with a team score of 321. Other teams were, Wheatmore – 349; Uwharrie Charter – 354; Randleman – 375; Providence Grove – 378; Eastern Randolph – 393; and Trinity – 397. The Cougars were led once again by John McDowell who shot an 18 hole score of 96. Tyler Hill shot 105; Justin Gillespie a 122; Logan Walker a 131; and Nicholas Cagle shot a 132. The players walked and played a long Pinewood Country Club course and gained valuable experience for the future of the Cougar golf program. Medalist for the tournament was Asheboro’s Sam Davidson who shot a two under par 70 to tie the record for this tournament. Second place overall was Stephen Spencer, Uwharrie Charter, who shot a 74 and 3rd place (tie breaker) was Conner Lineberry, Randleman, with a 76. Conner won a scorecard playoff over Zach Green from Asheboro who also had a 76. The Cougars next match will be Monday, April 1st. It will be a conference match hosted by Southern Alamance and will be played at Indian Valley Country Club. For more information, see Coach Mark Johnson.
