The Southwestern Randolph Boy’s Varsity Golf team is in a re-building year and played in their first conference match on Monday, March 11th. The conference match was hosted by Williams High School and was played at Alamance Country Club. The Cougars with only one returning player, faced tough opposition but held their own pretty well. With one freshman, two sophomores, and three juniors, the 2019 Cougars show great promise for the future. Leading scorer for the Cougars was John McDowell who carded an impressive 45. Returning player, Jordan Reynolds had a 51, Justin Gillespie a 58 and freshman Tyler Hill a 60. Other players were Nicholas Cagle, 62 and Logan Walker with a 66. The top four scores combined for a team total of 214, just one stroke out of 5th place. The match winner was Williams with an impressive 156 team total. Second place went to Asheboro with a team total of 162. Medalists for the match were Garrett Clark, from Williams, with a 34 and Zack Green, from Asheboro, also with a 34. The Cougars next match will be Thursday, March 14th. Eastern Randolph will be hosting a non-conference match at Siler City Country Club. The match starts at 4:00.
